SAINT MICHAEL ALBERTVILLE KNIGHTS

Head Coach: Dan Lefebvre

Enrollment: 1,613

Section: 5AAA

The Knights had a great season last year with their conference and section championships. But they will be looking for a state dual meet championship this season. Back from the team that posted a 26-3 dual meet mark are, eight state qualifiers of which five were state place winners. In addition they have a section place winner returning and an All Conference performer that didn’t compete in the section individual. In addition to that another wrestler that was a state qualifier 2 yrs. ago and was injured last season. The Knights did graduate six wrestlers last spring, including 4 of which were in the state qualifiers, of which two were state place winners. They return eleven wrestlers with twenty wins or more; they will be looking to improve on last year’s dual meet marks. Their leaders should include; returning state champions Mitchell McKee and Lucas Jeske; state runner ups Jake Allar and Evan Ronsen, fourth place returner Evan Foster, Patrick McGee, Donnie Leuer, Zach Nygaard, Zach Dehmer and finally the return of Seth Gardner. They have likely all could win over thirty matches each. It they stay free of many serious injuries they could be one of the top teams in the country.

CHAMPLIN PARK REBELS

Head Coach: Bill Maresh

Enrollment: 2,320

The Rebels posted 9-12 dual marks last season and they were a final four team in section 5AAA, back from that team are: five section place winners, including a state qualifier and eleven with experience. They graduated six last spring, including four section place winners, despite that loss look for them to challenge those dual marks from last season. They could be a surprise team in this section; they could challenge for a top four spot in this balanced dual meet section campaign. Dylan Droegemueller, Paul Winkelmann, Dalton Droegemueller, Tim Warren and Andrew Ockuly should be their key leaders thru out the season.

COON RAPIDS CARDINALS

Head Coach: Bob Adams

Enrollment: 1696

The Cardinals posted very good dual meet marks of 23-7; along with being conference champions and a final four team in this very tough section dual meet campaign. They will have back from that team: four section place winners and five with experience. They did graduate seven section place winners, all very good wrestlers. Four of which were state qualifiers and two were state place winners, despite the big loss thru graduation look for the Cardinals to have good season. They will have a tough time challenging those dual meet marks, but look for them to challenge for conference honors and possibly for a top four spot in what should be a very balanced section dual meet campaign. If the Cardinals fill with some of their junior varsity wrestlers, they should be a top four team in the section. Josh Bryant, Joey Bothwell, Nick Halseth and Jared Crawford should be their key leaders thru out the season.

The Rangers posted 12-14 dual meet marks last season, back from that team are six section place winners and twelve others with a great deal of experience. The Cardinals had their best season in school history; as they posted 28-2 dual meet marks along with a CLC championship and a section championship, they claimed fourth place in the state. They will be working really hard to improve or even match those numbers, however, they will be looking to defend some of their titles from last season. They will return five state qualifiers including four place winners , one section place winner and three others with a great deal of experience. They did graduate ten; seven of them were section place winners; of which five were state qualifiers. Look for the Cardinals to fill in some of their talented junior varsity wrestlers to for continued improvement thru out the season. I do believe there are a handful of teams that could win the CLC and those teams will be looking for a top four spot in what should be a very balanced section dual meet campaign. Look for Colton Carlson, Brady Reigstad, Clay Carlson, Israel Navarro, Logan Walkow and Cael Carlson to be their key leaders thru out the season.

The Spuds had another very good season last year, with their section championship and fifth place trophy in state. Back from that team are five section place winners, including three state qualifiers and eleven others with a great deal of experience. They did graduate seven last spring, including four section place winners, or about 140 wins. Despite that, look for the Spuds to be a slight favorite in this very balanced section dual meet campaign. They might be hard pressed to challenge those dual marks from last season. The Tigers had a very good season last year; posting excellent dual meet marks and their CLC performance. Look for this young team to continue to improve and if their bigger guys get a little bigger and stronger they could be the team to beat in both the CLC and the section. They will have eight section place winners, including four state qualifiers, two of which were place winners and four others with a great deal of experience. They did graduate six wrestlers, including one state qualifier, so look for this young team to continue to make strides. If they stay healthy it could be the year of the Tigers. Their youth program has grown in numbers the past couple of seasons, look for some of those wrestlers, to start having an impact on the varsity. Look for Austin Brenner, Cole Schreder, Tyler Hugg, Luke Dorn and Alex Kern to be their leaders thru out the season.

The Spartans posted very good dual meet marks last season, back from that team are nine section place winners, including two state qualifiers and six others with a great deal of experience. They did graduate a state place winner, but look for the Spartans to challenge those dual meet marks. This is a young team, look for steady improvement during the course of the season. They are one of a handful of teams that could challenge for conference honors and possible section honors. They will be led by Nick Warne, Cole Steil, Ben Hoffman, Dalton Calfas, Zavier Grefe, Max Court, Gunner Feldhege and Ryan Vigil.

LITTLE FALLS FLYERS

Head Coach: Mike Hendrickson

Enrollment: 692

Section 8AAA

The Flyers struggled thru numerous injuries last season, back from that team are seven section place winners, two with a great deal of experience and two injured wrestlers that were previous section place winners. Look for the Flyers, if they stay free of multiple injuries, to make a big improvement on their dual meet numbers. They should be a factor in the conference race and will be a force to be dealt with in the section dual meet campaign. They did graduate four seniors, two of which were state qualifiers, but despite that loss this team should be looking forward to a good season. Their key leaders should be Justin Jenks, A. J. Jenks, Lane Rutten, Josh Beack, Dustin Tabatt, Gage Blechinger and Leo Wilczek.

ALEXANDRIA CARDINALS

Head Coach: Tom Ellison

Enrollment: 1,098

Section 8AAA

The Cardinals struggled with both injuries and just getting a couple of their wrestlers on the mat. They should be looking to improve on those dual meet numbers from last season. Back from last year’s team are six section place winners, including one state qualifier and eight others with a great deal of experience. They did graduate five very good seniors, including four section place winner, yet look for this team to come together and challenge those dual meet marks and to finish near the top in the CLC standings. Again this section dual meet campaign should be a good one, with a handful of schools being in the hunt. The Cards might be just a little short of that, but stay tuned, let’s see who is healthy at that time of the season. Look for Blake Olhausen, Ben Johnson, Ben Bogart and Adam Johnson to be their key leaders thru out the season.

SARTELL SABRES

Head Coach: Cody Olson

Enrollment: 1033

Section 8AAA

The Sabres struggled with injuries and with the lack of those big guys coming out for wrestling after the completion of football. Back from last year’s team are five section place winners, including two state qualifiers, of which one is a returning state champion in addition to that they will have nine others with a great deal of experience. if they get the big guys out and they stay healthy they should improve on those dual meet numbers. They could be knocking on the door to a top tier finish in the CLC if they fill out all fourteen weights. Same goes for competing for a top four spot in this very balanced section dual meet campaign. With the graduation of four last spring, including three section place winners, look for them to continue to improve and give anyone a challenge in this section. Look for Rylee Molitor, Noah Peichel, Nick Pelach, Tyler Hubert, Ben Strom and Caleb O’Brien to be their key leaders.

Korey Keske, Tony Bemboom, Hunter Jakowksi, Zach Spohn, Taylor Rau, Kolton Farnick and Rich Carriveau should be their key leaders thru out the season.
